We applaud the National Disability Insurance Agency, the organisation that runs the NDIS, for creating a First Nations Advisory Council.
Established in collaboration with First Peoples Disability Network – and let’s acknowledge FPDN for being the driver for this achievement – the First Nations Advisory Council members include First Nations advocates with lived experience of disability, community, peak body and sector representatives.
The First Nations Advisory Council will ensure that decisions that affect First Nations people with disability will be informed by First Nations voices and experiences and reflect their goals and hopes. The work of the Advisory Council will embed the principle of self-determination.
The First Nations Advisory Council will help create a new NDIS First Nations Strategy and action plan.
Importantly, the Advisory Council will be funded by the NDIS.
You can learn more about the First Nations Advisory Council and its members on the NDIS website and through this video.
