Fair and equitable access to justice

Equality and justice won’t be achieved until all participants in a court’s proceedings know every word that is spoken by every other participant.

Our members believe that federal, state and territory Attorneys-General should put in place programs that will make sure there is full and equal communication access to all courts in Australia for people who have a hearing impairment or are Deaf, using their preferred methods of communication.

All courtrooms should have consistently functioning hearing loops and be responsive to needs to provide appropriately qualified and certified Auslan interpreters.
